The power of new thinking

I have just been on a three-day course with the wonderful Michael Breen. His subject was training facilitation and design. Doesn't sound too exciting, but Michael is such an original thinker that you feel privileged and exhausted to be there. Michael has been involved with NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) for over 20 years and has worked closely with its co-founder, Richard Bandler.


Michael is an iconoclast and a fierce enemy of rules and dogma in training and coaching. Not� for him (or me) the legions of rules, heuristics and 'laws' that the training world has thrown up over the years. Breen's view is that we need to get back to the basic power of NLP and not reduce to it to a few "do's" and "don'ts"

The course made me think very deeply about how we learn, what stops us learning and why the vast bulk of� knowledge that gets imparted at training sessions gets forgotten by the time people return to the office.� Breen has made me tear up plans I had for a new communications course and go back to basics - HOW DOES THE BRAIN LEARN?� I have thought up a new concept, inspired by Breen's course: CommuniCreate - the melding of creativity and communications (written and verbal) so that if people learn some really fundamental (but easy) skills they can unlock their creative side and become much more confident, and competent writers or speakers.
